真夜中(Mayo-naka)— “the middle of the night” — is a portrait of a girl who has forgotten how to be awake in the daytime. Mayo is 18, lives alone, works a remote job that requires no face. Her days have been compressed into two activities: waiting for the dark, and passing time inside it.

This film is a study of urban solitude in the ZUTOMAYO key — neon, CRT scan lines, the hum of a 24-hour konbini at 3 a.m. AI here doesn’t paint a realistic girl; it paints the feeling of being lit by screens, of looking at the world through one earphone while leaving the other ear “for the world.” Every frame obeys a single rule: no daylight, ever.
